THE POSITION: This position supports both the maintenance and burial goals of the cemeteries operation. The Heavy Equipment Operator reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for active participation in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of equipment. The duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures and in doing so upholds the Catholic social teachings of the Catholic Church (the Church).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

~ Safely operates all heavy equipment like backhoe, dump truck, boom truck, snow plow, and forklift 

(primarily boom truck and backhoe experiences are required for use in cementing vaults)

You will be cross-trained to work other areas of these 400 acre grounds

~ Assist in unloading trucks;

~ Ensure and manage the machines or equipment in a safe a secure way;

~ Assist with burial services including layout, preparation, installation of vault and opening closing of the burial site;

~ Disinterments (with approval of Executive Director);

~ 50% of this job is setting up services at the gravesite while working closely with the Digger using the backhoe at the gravesites and moving pipelines

~ Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures of corporate, federal, state and local regulations, including OSHA regulations;

~ Work order completion;

~ Meeting customer needs;

Preferred Experiences:

~ Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize cemetery lawn areas;

~ Snow removal and the removal of ice from the grounds as needed;

~ Plant, water and maintain landscaped areas consisting of bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns;

~ Trim and prune trees and shrubs; stake trees as necessary;

~ Apply herbicides, fungicides and pesticides safely; maintain records of fertilizers and chemicals used;

~ Operate maintenance equipment such as mowers, edgers and blowers; maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; repair equipment as necessary;

~ Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by complying with the provisions of the Cemeteries;

~ Identify equipment needs for each assigned project;

~ Perform basic security function by observing traffic flow into and out of grounds, guarding against vandalism when possible;

~ Place markers on gravesite; set marker in cement; log and record incoming markers and settings;

~ Ability to recognize sensitive information and adhere to strict confidentiality;

~ Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

~ High school graduate or equivalent and relevant work experience.

~ Must hold current valid Colorado driver’s license to perform duties;

~Must be flexible, willing to learn and have the desire to help in all cemetery areas as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

~ The job constantly requires to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing more than 20 lbs. (without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment).

~ Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is constantly required (i.e., more than 75% of time on the job).

~ Physical work place and/or exertion require somewhat rapid movement and/or effort and bring on a moderate amount of physical fatigue.

~ When considering the physical environment, the job works within, because of the nature of the job, the following factors may apply:

o The job requires working outdoors, in hot and cold temperatures and in other weather conditions;

o Moderate odors, dust, odor, pollen or fumes may cause discomfort and/or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages;

o Loud noise from equipment/machine is at a level where ear protection is required;

o Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use is required for all job duties.

Salary range is $18 - $21 per hour based on experience
