Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks an Intern in Systems Engineering for the summer of 2020. The position will be located in Huntsville, AL.
Under close supervision and following specific detailed instructions, performs entry level Systems Engineering assignments with a focus on Model Based Systems Engineering and Digital Thread. The position requires a limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts of Systems Engineering for aerospace system development.
85% - Assist with development of rocket propulsion systems hardware and software requirements. Responsible for derivation and allocation of requirements, and coordinating requirements change management with IPT members. Defines and coordinates requirements verification plans with integrated product team members, plans and manages compliance assessment and certification. Assists with performing functional analysis and conducts system trade studies. Coordinates selection of optimized concept baselines through cost/benefit trades. Provides system fault tolerance, health monitoring, and/or control system algorithms. Work with cross-disciplinary teams to expand Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) capability and extend Digital Thread reach. Learn assigned MBSE tools, document potential affordability improvements, and apply MBSE as practicable for performing Requirements, Integration, and Risk assignments on development efforts.
15% - Coordinates project risk assessment and management and prepares and reports results on compliance plans. Communicates results in oral presentations and written communication.
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Systems Engineering or other appropriate science/discipline. Must have completed junior year of study at a minimum. Strong academic track record of success. Systems Engineering coursework or experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering and SysML preferred. Rocket Propulsion coursework strongly desired.
Demonstrated self-driven initiative, adaptability to new ideas, and team work experience. Solid communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
To be considered an intern, you must be continuing with your education in the fall 2020.

I have completed coursework in systems engineering and have also worked on a team project where I applied systems engineering principles.
Working as Systems Engineering Interns, we are responsible for assisting the senior systems engineers of the company. We perform our assigned tasks within the given timeline to satisfy our employers. We address the issues of our senior engineers and deliver their messages to the management. In the role of Systems Engineering Intern, we are liable for contributing our engineering expertise in the enhancement of designs of internal systems by contributing our ideas. We participate in the testing procedures of the systems and alter the infrastructure codes. We also coordinate with our teammates to complete our tasks as per the provided instructions.
