About Alpha Omicron Pi 

Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity (AOII) has been a pillar in the Fraternity/Sorority Life community since its founding date of January 2, 1897, at Barnard College.  Since that date AOII has established chapters on over 200 college campuses across the United States and Canada and initiated more than 211,000 members.  AOII believes Inspiring Ambition begins when one can bring one’s full self to the organization, whether in-person at HQ or remotely without regard to BIPOC, LGBTQ+, national origin, religion, disability, Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.  This is done through ensuring a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment which creates a culture of care allowing our staff, members, and volunteers to celebrate unique perspectives and experiences.

Why the Director of Communications of AOII

As the Director of Communications for AOII, you will set and guide the strategy for all communications content and design consistently to articulate and connect the mission of Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity to internal and external publics. This position will partner with the staff team and international volunteers to develop and execute a variety of strategic initiatives to foster and ensure brand identity. The Director of Communications will lead, coordinate, and oversee all communications and marketing to ensure stakeholders understand and are connected to key directions, initiatives, events, services, and achievements of Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity and Properties. 

Reports to:

  • Executive Director

Direct Supervisor responsibilities to:

  • Associate Director of Communications
  • Assistant Director of Digital Communications 
  • Assistant Director of Graphic Design

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Supervises personnel, projects, and activities of the Communications Department associated with the Fraternity’s correspondence, publications, marketing, website, social media, public relations, multimedia, graphic design, and philanthropy.
  • Leads, develops, and oversees a comprehensive and organization-wide strategic communications plan for AOII Fraternity, assuringcommunication across all mediums is accomplished
  • Develop and plan collaboratively with the Communications Team to find new and innovative messaging to reach AOII members throughout any and all mediums
  • Partners with all departments on relevant initiatives of the membership experience
  • Manages and oversees the development and distribution of collaborative Crisis Communication Policy for the Fraternity in the event of a media crisis, while serving as a media contact for AOII Headquarters as these needs arise
  • Manages marketing initiatives and partnerships with the Fraternity which includes but are not limited to Herff Jones, Rocket Mortgage, and the Emporium
  • Manages the use of Alpha Omicron Pi’s branding and licensing in partnership with Affinity Marketing
  • Serves as a partner to the Events Committee to create cohesiveness with AOII branding as it relates to all pieces of the Events experience
  • Manages all Fraternity electronic communication through Marketing Cloud and works closely with OffPrem to develop campaigns that reach membership
  • Partners with the Associate Director of Communication to develop strategic direction for social media and providing necessary metrics to ensure the effectiveness of the plan
  • Works with Extension Team to develop dynamic communication for submissions and presentations that is representative of the campus culture and the Fraternity
  • Coordinates content with Communication Department for all communication vehicles when requested
  • Ensures speeches and presentations for AOII events are relevant and strengthen brand identity
  • Serves as a members of  the Fraternity Awards Committee
  • Serves on the Communications team to support the Fraternity in any related duties required or requested by the Executive Director or Assistant Executive Director
  • Serves as member of the website committee involved in content maintenance, timeliness, and functionality of AOII’s official website
  • Member of the Fraternity Communications Association (FCA) and/or additional relevant industry associations

Director of Communications must be able to Demonstrate:

  • Ability to assist in budget planning 
  • Ability to organize and allocate both human and financial resources

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or public relations
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak the English language
  • Physical mobility and dexterity to transport file and operate general office equipment (telephone, fax, copier, computer, etc.)
  • Experience in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend functions as necessary
  • Must be willing and able to travel 
  • Experience in Salesforce and Marketing Cloud preferred
  • Membership in a Fraternity/Sorority preferred 
  • Seven or more years of relevant experience preferred 

Working Conditions

  • Office setting based in Brentwood, TN; remote work capable
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on the computer
  • Must be able to lift up-to 15 pounds at times
