Wed-Sat: 9:30 pm - 8 am

Molecular Technologist

With the invention of genomic sequencing, we can finally understand and process our genetic makeup. We now have more data than ever before but providers don't have the infrastructure or expertise to make sense of said data. We believe the greatest promise for the detection and treatment of cancer lies in the deep understanding of molecular activity for disease initiation, progression, and efficacious treatment based on the discovery of unique biomarkers.

What you'll do:

Work with a cutting-edge genomics workflow to provide high-quality next-generation sequencing data with rapid turnaround times in a clinical laboratory.
Perform routine testing, quality control, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures.
Perform complex molecular-based procedures with a high degree of quality and in accordance with established protocols.
Perform next-generation sequencing, including nucleic acid extraction, DNA/RNA quantification and qualification, NGS library preparation, probe hybridization, probe/library capture, library cleanup, and quantification, loading sequencing libraries onto the Illumina Nextseq, HiSeq4000, and Novaseq.
Sterilize laboratory equipment and workspaces as assigned.
Enter clinical patient data into the Laboratory Information Management system.
Obtain 12 continuing education hours in the field of oncology or molecular biology.
Maintain competency to perform all assigned molecular biology protocols in accordance with CAP, CLIA, and NYSDOH regulations.

Qualifications:

BS in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science, and 1 year of pertinent clinical lab experience in molecular biology
Excellent communication skills

Ability to work with others to plan and carry out scientific programs
Self-driven and works well in an interdisciplinary team with minimal direction
Strong desire to build products that will save lives and change the course of cancer

Tasks

Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal or abnormal components.

Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.

Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers.

Collect and study blood samples to determine the number of cells, their morphology, or their blood group, blood type, or compatibility for transfusion purposes, using microscopic techniques.

Enter data from analysis of medical tests or clinical results into computer for storage.

Establish or monitor quality assurance programs or activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.

Analyze samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction.

Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.

Provide technical information about test results to physicians, family members, or researchers.

Cultivate, isolate, or assist in identifying microbial organisms or perform various tests on these microorganisms.

Supervise, train, or direct lab assistants, medical and clinical laboratory technicians or technologists, or other medical laboratory workers engaged in laboratory testing.

Develop, standardize, evaluate, or modify procedures, techniques, or tests used in the analysis of specimens or in medical laboratory experiments.

Harvest cell cultures at optimum time, based on knowledge of cell cycle differences and culture conditions.

Select and prepare specimens and media for cell cultures, using aseptic technique and knowledge of medium components and cell requirements.

Obtain, cut, stain, and mount biological material on slides for microscopic study and diagnosis, following standard laboratory procedures.

Conduct medical research under direction of microbiologist or biochemist.
