Our firm is currently looking for an Senior Energy Engineer. This individual will operate out of our Los Angeles office. This is an outstanding opportunity to bring your specialized energy expertise to our team and make an immediate impact on the continued success of our firm.

The Senior Energy Engineer position is responsible for the delivery of commissioning and retro-commissioning services and providing energy engineering advice and coordination services for energy efficiency and energy generation projects, and building systems including lighting, controls, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and provide documentation for energy efficiency project opportunities contributing to Building or campus carbon emission reduction; specifically HVAC and Lighting systems
  • Perform field energy audits, run energy system models, and develop ASHRAE Level audit reports
  • Provide commissioning technical leadership and oversight across all projects
  • Initiates and leads all phases of comprehensive design through post-occupancy commissioning
  • Manage and update Cumming provided commissioning specifications, commissioning plan, procedures, and deliverables
  • Serve as the quality control verifier for Cumming developed commissioning procedures
  • Oversee supporting commissioning engineers and sub consultant commissioning agents
  • Ensure that projects are delivered within the agreed upon cost, quality, schedule and profit
  • Defines commissioning roles and scope for members of design, commissioning and construction teams; prepares commissioning plan and interfaces with validation plan where applicable. Confers with project staff to devise work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
  • Develops and supports startup/commissioning safety plans and procedures; assures conformance to company guidelines and practices
  • Reviews and approves RFIs and change orders related to the commissioned systems
  • Reviews system boundaries and develops project startup and turnover sequence
  • Reviews status reports prepared by commissioning personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required
  • Interface with clients on schedules, meetings and issues (manage client expectations)
  • Advise senior management of the project status on a regular basis
  • Anticipate potential schedule or priority delays and initiate plans for alternative actions
  • Coordinate with other energy and sustainability team members for energy, water, waste, and climate mitigation for comprehensive client strategies
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, preferably in the discipline of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5-7 years of industry experience required, including commissioning experience
  • A strong understanding of how systems affect energy consumption
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in eQuest, EnergyPlus required
  • Proficiency in e-Pro strongly desired
  • Experience with commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools required 
  • Experience with mechanical and/or controls required
  • Technical knowledge of MEP system design and operation, strong controls and instrumentation background
  • Electrical systems experience a plus
  • This position will require some travel as needed. Vehicle transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance are required.

Required Licenses:

  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. 

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Building Commissioning Professional, CBCP® or Existing Building Commissioning Professional, EBCP®
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Other related energy or sustainability accreditations such as LEED Accredited Professional
