Position Summary

The Clinical Educator II - Travel ensures that Sterile Processing staff, both internal and external to STERIS, are properly trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to HSPA, CBSPD, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, DNV OSHA, AAMI and those of STERIS and its customer facilities. Performs various educational duties under supervision and guidance from Manager, Clinical Education, and/or onsite operations leadership. Potential to support and work alongside all instrument processing solutions to include but not limited to continuous improvement, off site reprocessing centers and/or outsourced engagements. Travel positions require up to 100% domestic travel.

Duties

  1. Effectively works with contracted facility to ensure employees are effectively trained on all required competency skill levels.
  2. Conducts sterile processing employee assessments of job performance to policy and standard work; identifies competency deficiencies and conducts effective training to eliminate gaps.
  3. Participates and assists in new hire orientation and on the job training as directed by the Education Management Team and/or operations leadership.
  4. Completes and maintains training records, employee education files and documentation of competency skill level.
  5. Ensures employee training files and documentation of competency skill level and certifications are up to date in the company database and accurately reflect the employees' job-related responsibilities.
  6. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of multi-specialty instrumentation and serves as a resource for staff in SPD.
  7. Provides re-education training and communication for performance issues found in the OR and instrumentation tray audits.

  1. Conducts employee assessments and trains to deficiencies noted.
  2. Aid in the on-going development of staff education by providing in-services to staff at a cadence determined by Education Manager and/or operations leadership.
  3. Conducts twelve-week training module for new employees with or without central sterile processing experience.
  4. Fulfills standard staff education and training plus conducts all modules that Education offers that include Train the Trainer, Onsite Certification Course, new hire training, Endoscopy/HLD training, Process Improvement Coaching and Interim Education. This also includes the decontamination, sterilization, and assembly modules.
  5. Adjust schedule to work with all employees on all shifts to ensure training needs are met and supported. Ability to work pre-arranged weekend, night, and evening hours.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
  7. Must be able to be compliant with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.
Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience
  1. High School Diploma required
  2. 5+ years training experience required
  3. 5+ years Sterile Processing experience required
  4. CRCST (HSPA) or CSPDT (CBSPD) certification required
  5. CER (HSPA) or CFER (CBSPD) certification required
  6. CIS (HSPA) or CSIS (CBSPD) or CST (NBSTSA) certification required
  7. Must maintain certification by completing 12 Continuing Education Credit Hours each year, or more if required for a specific certification
  8. Must maintain valid driver's license, vehicle insurance and be available to operate a vehicle as needed to meet travel requirements.
  9. Must be able to travel across the US and pass the Customer's background and medical standards for credentialing purposes.
  10. Associate degree preferred
  11. Previous travel experience preferred (1+ year)

Clinical Educator II must be able to perform all job duties of a Clinical Educator I in addition to conducting the twelve-week training module and train the trainer modules. Has to be able to be a subject matter expert on assigned competencies for Customer Account. Employee is expected to take proactive steps in understanding and resolving gaps in employees' competencies and resolving business problems. This position is crucial to the success of a hospitals SPD department. Failure to successfully complete their job can lead to patient health issues, Joint Commissions concerns, and large fines/processes assigned to the Customer in cases where employees are not trained on how to perform their job duties. Employee must be able to travel across the US and pass the needed hospital background and medical standards.

As Clinical Educators, we help develop training programs for nurses and other health workers. We coordinate with different departments and conduct assessments that determine areas that need to be improved and develop various methods that make operations effective and easy. We can also treat patients, manage schedules, produce reports showing patient’s progress and maintain patient's records and documents. We provide CPR training within the community and for new staff members and existing staff to use them effectively when needed.
