Proven and substantive administrative experience with record of proven fundraising and other accomplishments as an administrator at a higher education institution, non-profit or similarly complex organization. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Primary Responsibilities

Summary

Serves as the Chief Advancement Officer for the University. Provides leadership and expertise, and enhances the development and operation of the Division of University Advancement to include advancement, annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, advancement and stewardship services, University Foundation, alumni relations, University communications, Museum of the Big Bend and museum advisory council.

Primary Responsibilities: The Vice President for University Advancement makes commitments and decisions of a final nature limited only by law, University-wide regulations, and policies, including authority to formulate and revise policies dealing with varied and complex problems subject only to review by the President. The position is responsible for establishing goals, strategic planning, coordination, budgeting, directing division resources, and outcomes of the work of University Advancement. Builds and strengthens relationships with external and internal constituents through outreach, stewardship, communications, media relations, social media, marketing, alumni relations, special events and other programs. Designs and implements comprehensive institutional capital and other fundraising development programs to advance the mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals of the University in accordance with the University President and leadership. Directs the overall operational strategies and efforts to create and execute fundraising plans using best practices in annual, major, and planned gift programs to meet fundraising goals. Identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with a pool of top tier prospects to cultivate and solicit for major gifts. Responsible for the division achieving goal-oriented outcomes. Works closely with the President in advancement and campaign leadership activities. Represents the University in various communities linking external stakeholders to the University. Works closely with the Sul Ross State University Foundation to coordinate and ensure that activities are aligned, and as appropriate, integrated with the University Advancement Plan.

Maintains ongoing support, communications, and the commitment of leaders from all sectors of the community. Ensures the building and growth of a network model and volunteer structure that supports Alumni engagement to promote the University. Creates strategies aimed at increasing lifelong engagement between Alumni and the University. Identifies opportunities to infuse pride in the University brand to create a visible Alumni network. Performs other related duties as assigned by the President.

Other Specifications: The Vice President provides leadership within the division; works effectively with administration, faculty, staff, alumni, and other outside contacts, and is committed to University inclusion and diversity initiatives. Duties require high-caliber coordination of diversified programs to assure accomplishments of the complete goal or mission. Must possess the ability to communicate, obtain support, and work collaboratively with internal and external parties, including top government officials and/or business executives, in advocating for advancement of the University. The position requires knowledge of University structure, policies, and procedures for a major division of the University. Position is eligible for hybrid/remote work with regular recurring visits to the main campus in Alpine, TX and travel to other destinations is required.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Working Conditions

Ability to travel extensively in the University service area and available to conduct daytime or nighttime meeting sessions during capital campaign and cultivation programs. Exempt from overtime provisions. Position is Security Sensitive.

Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

About SRSU

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.

The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor's degrees as well as master's degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
