Working directly with the private sector MITRE Engenuity is a non-profit subsidiary of MITRE, tasked with creating scalable, repeatable, impact from MITRE’s Federally Funded R&D Center work across six different FFRDCs to address whole of nation challenges. Drawing from MITRE’s deep bench strength as one of the largest independent, non-profit R&D organizations in America, MITRE Engenuity is focused on bringing private sector relationships and innovation to public sector solutions. From working on CHIPS and Science to strengthening cyber security defense globally, we’re not just preparing for the future, we’re helping to create it.

Our diverse business models include advanced industry R&D collaborations, Fee for Service Cyber Evaluations, knowledge sharing certification programs, and thought leadership consulting services as well as spin out and investment activity. To support this growth, MITRE Engenuity is hiring an experienced Head of Marketing to build and lead a world-class B2B and B2G marketing organization. This role will require leading and coordinating marketing efforts across MITRE Engenuity’s organization spanning advanced technology offerings, new products, 5G, and cybersecurity and working closely with MITRE’s communications team that provides the Event, PR and other key support to our Go to Market team of campaign experts.

The Head of Marketing will execute MITRE Engenuity’s vision to create scalable, repeatable impact through innovation for public good by working directly with the private sector on whole of nation challenges. As the primary owner of the marketing strategy, it will be important to understand the business objectives and develop and manage marketing programs and teams to achieve a discrete set of outcomes that are agreed with business owners and fit with our financial objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Go to Market (GTM) Strategy: Work with MITRE Engenuity leadership and General Managers to define and execute a GTM strategy across all initiatives to maximize value while aligning with our mission for public good measured in qualified leads, revenue growth, industry recognition, partner involvement, and overall market impact.

  • GTM Execution: Own go-to-market strategy execution, including brand building, web development, product marketing, business development enablement, public relations communications, content development and placement, event coordination, and lead generation across Advanced Technologies, New Products, and Programs

  • Demand Generation: Lead the design, development, and management of multi-channel integrated lead generation campaigns within specific initiatives and across MITRE Engenuity to drive results aligned with MITRE Engenuity leadership and General Manager goals; multiply business development capacity; shorten time to sale or conversion, and generate wholly new business leads; drive web site and other on-line presence to accurately reflect business value, inform customer/partner/member buy decision, and maximize sales reach with focus on search, stickiness, contact collection, and lead conversion.

  • Product Marketing: Incubate and scale GTM for initiatives ensuring early success and sustained growth; understand each initiatives focus and key technologies to create product messaging and positioning, define audience, and assist MITRE Engenuity leadership and General Managers with business models and business cases.

  • Brand and Messaging: Enture brand strategy and messaging is consistent across all communications, content and programs.

  • Customer Marketing: Align with General Managers and build CRM structure to leverage cross initiative audiences and members, ensure regular and responsive customer touch points, increase audience value, and create loyalty; own voice of the customer.

  • Internal Communications: Create and manage internal communications framework that ensures effective mission driven messaging` and key results communications to MITRE Engenuity resources, MITRE as a whole, and government and industry partners as appropriate.

  • Market Research: Lead GTM research to enable messaging, identify opportunities, establish value and uniqueness of proposed initiatives, test and validate expansion, inform other decisions such as consortium structures, pricing, best practices, partnership priorities, etc., and monitor market perception of MITRE Engenuity brand and impacts.

  • Team Development: Design and evolve marketing team structure to hire at pace with needs and growth; mentor and coach employees to ensure team growth, achievement of goals, and alignment with mission.

  • Resources: Work with MITRE Engenuity Operations and General Managers to evolve sales and marketing tech stack and identify other needs; hire, manage and optimize performance of any agency resources

  • Reporting and Presentation: Establish marketing KPIs; track and analyze performance; effectively present results through regular reports, leadership presentations, and as dictated by the needs of the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

This role requires a strategic problem solver who is an effective communicator with a high degree of business acumen. They must have a passion for, and experience with, building new businesses, thinking creatively about growth, and for developing others. To that end, the Head of Marketing must deeply understand technology markets and must be able to rapidly demonstrate impact and value to the organization. The ideal person has demonstrated excellence in growth, strategy, go-to-market, operations, and advancing emerging technology markets. They will set critical objectives for growth and brand development, while planning and executing upon strategies vital to day-to-day operations with an entrepreneurial mindset. Leadership, change management, data driven decision making, and a dedication to continuous improvement are also critical skills in this high growth environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (or equivalent in combined education and experience)

  • 10+ years of related job experience with at least 3 years of leadership experience

  • Self-starter who leans into and can multitask in fast-paced and often ambiguous environments.

  • Effective and mature communicator, able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing, comfortable in business and technical discussions.

  • Experience in building trusting relationships and influencing others (incl. executive audiences).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with start-ups, corporations, and government agencies is a plus.

  • Demonstrated excellence in growth, strategy, go-to-market, operations, and advancing emerging technology markets.

  • Master’s degree in related field preferred
