Description:
Position Purpose:
The Pharmacist Assistant serves the Long Term Care Pharmacy in the technical functions of the practice of long term care pharmacy, enabling the pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care functions. An integral part of the pharmacy team, the technician transcribes prescriptions to the pharmacy dispensing system, bills insurance, packages and labels medications, assists with inventory control, and provides exceptional customer service to our patients.

Represents MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly and caring manner.
Assists with all aspects of inventory control: ordering, receiving, stocking, returning, and additional drug inventory control duties, including checking pharmacy stock shelves for outdated drugs and assisting with annual inventory counts of all products stocked in the pharmacy including prescription, non-prescription and supplies with a focus on stewardship Assists with invoice reconciliation and coding for finance.
Files prescriptions, orders, paperwork, stocks bottles and supplies and performs other clerical duties as necessary or requested.
Utilizes pharmacy dispensing software to accurately input patient and third party information, and to process new and refill prescription orders following safety procedures to ensure pharmacist involvement in any process that would involve professional judgment.
Packages and labels prescriptions for final verification by pharmacist in an organized and highly accurate manner prioritizing and organizing workflow as appropriate.
Hours/Schedule:
PRN; as needed. Hours scheduled would be between 8:00am - 6:30am (Monday - Friday) and 8:30am - 12:00pm (Saturday)
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Certification and Registration
Required:
Registration: Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician Trainee or Certified Pharmacy Technician is required to be validated prior to commencement of employment per IA BOP Rules 657-3.3.
Certification: National certification must be acquired and maintained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or the National Healthcareer Association prior to the expiration date of a Pharmacy Technician in Training registration.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical names and dosages
Must have acceptable accuracy in performing tasks of verbal and written communication, keyboard operation and computer skills, as well as interpretation and use of numerical and graphic materials
Must be organized and detail oriented
Excellent customer service skills
Must follow all laws and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy
Must provide proof of Basic Life Support ( BLS Provider -American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

We manage the restocking schedules and track the inventory of purchases. We have the ability to maintain the building, filing, and management of the supplies of pharmaceutical products. Working as Pharmacy Assistants, our primary responsibility is to ensure that all the tasks in the pharmacy are being executed in the right way and they comply with the laws and policies of the government.
