Job Summary

We are searching for a Pharmacy Resident, PGYII - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide patient care and excellent customer service in the hospital health care setting. Will assist in direct patient care activities to promote optimal drug therapy and resolving medication use problems in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-adult). To serve each patient acuity level in an effort to obtain a broad clinical knowledge base to ultimately develop the skills and knowledge of a high performing clinical pharmacist.

Responsibilities

  • Manages multiple projects involving a variety of pharmacy areas.
  • Communicates effectively and presents oneself as a leader, representing pharmacy at meetings, presentation and mean the discussions.
  • Perpetuates self-development through a major research project, medication safety project, recruiting future residents at the Midyear Clinical Meeting, presenting results of the major research project at TSHP Annual Seminar/ALCALDE meeting, leadership journal clubs, and editing the Pharmacy and Therapeutic newsletter as appropriate.
  • Uses conflict management skills and effective negotiating skills are utilized. Participates in activities with other healthcare professionals, vendors and peers where appropriate.
  • Actively participates in multi-disciplinary rounds with medical services.
  • Identifies patients with special needs and oversees coordination of activities to ensure proper delivery of drug therapy.
  • Makes recommendations and assist in implementing optimal patient care.
  • Performs outcome-directed therapeutic drug monitoring for patients according to guidelines. Monitors therapy for drug-drug, drug-nutrient, drug-laboratory interactions. Discusses interactions with appropriate health care professionals to help ensure patient safety. Measures compliance.
Qualifications
  • RPH - Phamacist License from State of Texas (within first 3 months of entering the role)

About the Pharmacy Resident role

Pharmacists Pharmacy Resident

As Pharmacy Residents, we are responsible for developing and implementing a longitudinal residency project under the guidance of the Residency Director, Coordinator, Preceptors, or Project Advisors. We have to attend Professional and Educational Meetings/Conferences and Educational Meetings/Conferences. We need to complete twelve (12) months of the training program to meet the program goals as well as the educational outcomes set by ASHP/AMCP prior to receiving a certificate of completion.

Core tasks:

  • knowing unit dose systems, IV Admixture, Chemotherapy, Clinical -pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and drug use evaluation
  • providing all patient care functions as part of the pharmacy staff training and ultimately oversee the staff’s direct delivery of these services
  • performing routine mathematical calculations; weighing, measuring, and documentation with accuracy
  • participating in departmental quality improvement program and adverse drug event monitoring program (SZP)
