The Senior Bioinformatics Engineer will help create advanced, highly multiplexed molecular diagnostic assays in a multidisciplinary environment. Primary responsibilities include development and execution of robust computational pipelines for the automated and semi-automated development of primer and probe design for complex assays. Candidates must have strong programming skills and be able to operate independently, design and implement computational pipelines, and collaborate with Bioinformatics Scientists, Signal Processing Engineers, and Molecular Biologists to gather requirements and implement code in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Prior experience in Bioinformatics is highly desired, but not required for this position. You will set the tone for a collaborative environment that values equity of voice, inclusive behaviors and trusting teams.

This position is part of the Biochip R&D Team and will be located in Sunnyvale CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop novel algorithms to improve the efficiency and accuracy of in silico design/simulation of complex, high performing diagnostic assays
  • Take ownership of your own project and make a difference that will have a wide impact across the company
  • Streamline workflows by building and implementing bioinformatics pipelines
  • Implement innovative solutions to visualize complex scientific data
  • Design and deploy databases, web applications and dashboards that serve the needs of scientists and engineers across multiple disciplines.
The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, data science, or related fields with 5+ years of experience or a Masters with 3+ years of experience.
  • Proven experience developing tools and algorithms to help analyze/visualize scientific data; (or a proven record of independent development of tools and packages)
  • Proficiency with Python and git operations required;
  • Familiar with at least one major database platforms - MySQL, Postgresql, SQLite or NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB)
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
  • Workflow management tools such as Snakemake or Nextflow
  • Full stack development using modern platforms such as React, Vue.js, Flask, Dash, D3, etc.
  • Setting up a CI/CD workflow

The salary range for this role is $130K - $150K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
