Independently performs professional engineering/scientific assignments in support of Bechtel global business unit projects. This position requires advanced understanding of engineering/scientific principles for protective coatings, linings, and non-metallic construction materials, especially as relates to corrosion mitigation. Non-metallic materials include paint, polymer linings, and to some degree insulation. Skills include proper material selection for defined conditions and process stability and cryogenic services. This specialist will represent Bechtel in discussions/presentations to clients, management, or senior technical personnel.
Thorough knowledge of materials and application of industrial coatings.
Understands the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant Bechtel design guides and specifications.
Has a broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability, as pertinent to construction methods and materials.
Understands engineering planning and control methods, including computerized methods.
Understands the roles played by other project disciplines, including basic construction practices and economics.
Understands industry or regulatory codes/standards and design criteria pertinent to the coatings.
Skilled in oral and written communication.
Qualifications
A recognized degree in a materials engineering, polymer science or chemistry from an accredited college or university (Preferred), OR
A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board such as ISO, SSPC Protective Coatings Society or AMPP/NACE, OR
Sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant materials engineering or appropriate engineering disciplines to meet job requirements, AND
Grade 26: Ten years of practical work experience or relevant experience in engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence.
Certification as a Protective Coatings Specialist.
