Overview

Our growing company is seeking to hire a Tax Accounting Manager based out of our Mayville, WI location.  As an employee/owner at MEC, you will lead the preparation and review of the company's quarterly and annual tax provision (ASC 740). You will also lead the preparation and review of the company’s effective tax rate and cash tax forecasts, SEC reporting, compliance with SOX controls, and other tax accounting initiatives.

A role like this comes with some important responsibilities, some of those responsibilities include:

  • Lead the preparation and review of the following:
    • Quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision calculations.
    • Tax sections of the company’s SEC reporting and footnote disclosures (10-Q and 10-K).
    • Uncertain tax positions under ASC 740.
    • Forecasting efforts including effective tax rate and cash taxes.
  • Support compliance with SOX controls specific to taxes.
  • Lead and support external audit coordination over the tax provision by partnering with our external tax audit partners in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate, lead and support audits conducted by tax regulators.
  • Interact with finance and treasury on tax accounting matters, as well as outside advisors
  • Perform research to assist with tax provision and tax accounting initiatives (UNICAP, R&D Credit, WOTC, etc.).
  • Recognize, anticipate and resolve tax issues; make recommendations
  • Lead the preparation of sales, use, excise tax and other property tax reports.
  • Complete federal and state tax returns and other reporting packaging that are required.
  • Forecast and communicate tax position(s).
  • Maintain technical expertise over new tax relevant tax pronouncements in various tax areas related to industry specialization with the ability to interpret, apply and provide a recommendation to the senior leadership team.
  • You will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

What Does It Take to Be a Fit for This Role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA/MBA is preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience within the Tax function of a publicly held corporation, public accounting firm, or law firm. Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Accounting for income taxes experience including knowledge of ASC 740, US GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements as well as Corporate tax experience.
  • This role will need to be proficient in ASC 740 and corporate tax laws affecting the company.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Operates with high integrity; builds trust, quickly wins and sustains credibility in relationship with others.
  • Experience in developing, presenting and implementing process improvements, new approaches and best practices. Strong research and analytical skills.    
  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to produce a high-level work product within deadlines and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
