Job Description

The Compliance Officer contributes to the fulfillment of VHA health care system's mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing and maintaining compliance programs, policies and procedures. The Compliance Officer serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness of moral principals consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organization and those required by federal law.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides guidance and counsel on incorporating compliance-related activities into the operations areas
  • Fulfills the role of liaison between the VISN Compliance Office and Medical Center by ensuring information received is disseminated to the appropriate areas
  • Monitors the Compliance Line, as well as, questions, issues and reports of possible non-compliance reported
  • Develops, implements and coordinates training and educational programs related to compliance, which ensures operations employees maintain understanding of compliance and the Medical Center's mission for compliance
  • Chairs the Medical Center Compliance Committee and provides outcomes to VISN Compliance Officer
  • Creates a communications process and tools that are flexible, customizable and interactive to address the medical facilities unique compliance challenges and education/training needs
  • Communicates compliance related information which addresses identified compliance risk areas and reviews periodic reports to leadership detailing compliance initiatives and recommendations
  • Ensures complete and accurate diagnostic and procedural coded data is achieved for the purposes of research management, outcomes and statistical analysis, financial and strategic planning, reimbursement and quality of care
  • Coordinates investigations or any issues of noncompliance and ensures a corrective action plan is developed and utilized

About the Compliance Officer role

Compliance Officers Compliance Officer

As Compliance Officers, we coordinate with the Head of Marketing or designee and all applicable business units. We provide timely review and approve all communications. We ensure that all communications follow applicable regulatory guidelines. It is our duty to conduct a compliance monitoring program relating to marketing materials. We update policies and procedures. We conduct periodic training with personnel. Maintaining the records of all approved materials is a part of our job. We recordkeeping rules and internal policies and procedures. We work closely with the Compliance Team. Assisting in any other Compliance-related functions and ad hoc projects is also our job.
