Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or Architecture, Public or Business Administration, Aviation Management, Finance, or in a field related to the job, plus at least six (6) years of experience at airports, airlines, or comparable organizations, including two (2) years of experience which were in a managerial capacity.
  • Graduation with a Master's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for non-lead or non-supervisory experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.

This position will oversee development, implementation and overall management.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

VETERAN :

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Large public capital delivery program experience.
  • Aviation industry Design and Engineering standard and specification development and implementation experience.
  • Design and Engineering quality reviews management experience.
  • Experience working with design teams, project managers and stakeholders, including Maintenance and Facility Managers and Operators, to align on design objectives and standards.
  • Executive level and Public Commission communication experience.
  • Management of multi-million dollar operating and capital delivery budgets.
  • Experience leading divisions/large departments of professional architects, engineers.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Establishes short- and long-range goals for commercial development projects by identifying and prioritizing development opportunities.
  • Represents the organization as the development leader by advocating, communicating, and supporting the strategic direction, goals, vision, mission, and values of AUS .
  • Interacts with professional services, general contractors, developers, real estate professionals, business and property owners, lenders, community groups, legal counsel, elected officials, and citizen groups concerning development projects.
  • Works closely with the FAA in capturing Federal Airport Improvement Program funding and compliance with Federal grant programs.
  • Manages the Airport Master Plan including processing updates as needed, and any work related to ensure compliance of the Airport Layout Plan ( ALP ).
  • Manages annual division operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan ( CIP ) budgets, including preparing short- and long-term spending plans.
  • Represents AUS interests in aviation; technical factors; and with governmental and regulatory agencies, boards, councils, commissions, and oversight bodies.


  • Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
    • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development, planning, budgeting, business analysis, FAA regulations, and general airport operations.
    • Knowledge of the practices and principles of airport administration, operations, and security.
    • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
    • Knowledge of reporting concepts, budgeting, purchasing, and preferred business practices.
    • Knowledge of project management and internal control concepts and practices.
    • Skill in effective oral and written communications.
    • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees, the public, and contractors.
    • Skill in using software applications to perform data analysis for project and program controls.
    • Skill in negotiating agreements.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to interact positively and effectively with elected officials; AUS leadership; managers; Local, State, and Federal agency representatives; contractors; tenants; media representatives; foreign and domestic dignitaries; passengers; and members of the public from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
