Must live or be willing to relocate within 45 minutes of site location. The site is located 15 minutes due west of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Relocation will be offered for this position

Note: the hiring manager may elect to fill one or more of these positions at either the Tech I level or Tech II level dependent upon a candidates skills and experience.

This is the first level of the wind operations classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve problems, in technical areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.

Maintenance of Wind Turbine Fleet
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
  • Perform turbine pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
  • Work as scheduled during the week and on call as required by manager
  • Climb 300 ft. several times daily
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times
Compliance & Administrative Record Maintenance
  • EH&S Documentation
  • Complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary)
Additional Support for Fleet Wind Sites
  • Willing to travel and assist other Duke Energy Generation Services wind facilities when needed.
Basic Qualifications - Wind Technician I
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a two year associates degree or technical school certificate, OR
  • A combination of education and experience and 1 plus years of directly related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree/technical certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position; ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year.
Desired Qualifications - Wind Technician I
  • Experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair and maintenance
  • Experience with Suzlon S88 Turbines or any other Suzlon Turbines
  • Experience with other wind turbine technologies such as GE, Vesta, Siemens, etc.
  • High voltage and sub station maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
Basic Qualifications - Wind Technician II
  • 2 year associates degree or technical school certificate AND
  • A minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience or a minimum of 1 year of technical experience with Duke Energy as a Wind Technician OR
  • 3 plus years of directly related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree/technical certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position; ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year
Desired Qualifications - Wind Technician II
  • More than 1 year experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair and maintenance
  • Experience with Suzlon S88 Turbines or any other Suzlon Turbines
  • Experience with other wind turbine technologies such as GE, Vesta, Siemens, etc.
  • High voltage and sub station maintenance experience
  • Applies basic understanding of the technical and process functions
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Ability to interpret fault reports, maintain power generation reports, service logs in the computer database and monitor turbine
  • Experience with regular preventative maintenance and repair on wind turbine power generation equipment

Maintenance / Repair - Other Wind Turbine Technician

Functioning as Wind Turbine Technicians, we are responsible for following the safety rules and regulations while performing the winding work. We stay involved in the site operations. We provide assistance in the management and preparation of wind turbine developmental plans. In the role of Wind Turbine Technician, we are accountable for inspecting the entire interior and exterior parts of the turbines to identify their proper functionality. We analyse the systems to identify the areas of improvement in them. We make reports based on the turbine data for conducting in-depth researches on them. We work individually and as a part of a team, whenever required.

Core tasks:

  • following the assigned instructions by our supervisors
  • servicing the underground systems
  • gathering the information about turbines
  • performing preventative maintenance tasks on turbines
  • working collaboratively with the team members
