JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Schedule all T-38 and Heavy Aircraft in Flight Scheduling Application (FSA). Schedule T-38 Aircraft Movement requests from NASA Maintenance.
  • Schedule T-38 Test Flights in FSA.
  • Update all currency requirements through Flight Records and Currency System (FRC) for all flying personnel.
  • Update and maintain Training Records and Flight Records for all flying personnel.
  • Update flight information as needed in Flight Data Capture System. (FDC).
  • Schedule T-38 CRM/EP Simulator training for AOD IPs and Astronauts.
  • Schedule airspace request for W147C, Physiological Refresher Course, and Water Survival Refresher training.
  • Verify accuracy of flight data and fuel slips.
  • Create and maintain the flight manifest for NASA JSC Gulfstream aircraft.
  • Coordinate with US Customs on flights returning from overseas.
  • Submit Quarterly Individual Flight Hours Reports.
  • Update and maintain all Duty Office Work Instructions.
  • Maintain software updates to iPads applications.
  • Charter Flight support for Astronaut Families and other NASA Personnel

 
REQUIREMENTS
 
Education: High School Diploma (College Degree preferred)

Year(s) of Experience: 5+ years of experience providing real-time flight scheduling support in a commercial aviation or military aviation environment
      
Required Skills and Traits
 
  • Ability to share knowledge with others for flight scheduling training.
  • Ability to recommend changes to existing processes and policies in Aircraft Operations Division Duty Office.
  • Strong office skills and the ability to work with Microsoft Office elements and popular web-based applications.
  • Ability to use Flight Scheduling Application (FSA) program and the Flight Records and Currency (FRC) program within NASA Aircraft Management Information System (NAMIS) (training provided).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle tasks with little to no direction.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic operational work environment.
  • Ability to project a professional and cooperative demeanor.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook and Word skills.
  • Knowledge of NASA/JSC environment and processes is a plus.
Travel: ~ 15 to 20% in support of crew launch activities in Cape Canaveral Florida

About the Flight Dispatcher role

Air Transportation Flight Dispatcher

We, the flight dispatchers, co-ordinate different activities and remain on the ground at airports to ensure the quick, safe, and efficient turnaround of aircraft when they land to the time and when they depart from the airports. We ensure that all the flight operations systems at the airports are maintained in a timely and accurate manner. We also make sure flights are dispatched efficiently and all regulatory and company checks are performed.

Core tasks:

  • monitoring aircraft departures and arrivals and adjusting turnaround schedules on time of delays
  • ensuring that tasks and liaising with crew on the ground, such as refueling, cleaning, and loading, are completed on-time
  • calculating quantity of fuel required for the aircraft’s weight and distance of journeys
  • calculating payloads (weight of passengers, luggage, cargo, and fuel) and preparing plans of where they should be positioned in the aircraft
