3H is a 22 Neuroscience/Spine unit at Blodgett Hospital that specializes in the care of patients admitted with neurological conditions, stroke, and spinal surgeries such as fusions and laminectomies. Nurses are often drawn to 3H for the variety of patients while still having a specialty focus. Our nurses become competent in caring for a large array of both surgical and medical patients and become experts in the care of patients within our specialties. Specifically, our team is known as being experts in Stroke care, urinary catheters, managing the care of wounds, drains and post-operative recovery. Additional unique skills that nurses hired to 3H will learn include utilization of the NIHSS Stroke Scale.
The inpatient nurse delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.

As Registered Nurses, we primarily provide patients with health care specialized to improve their well-being. We work alongside medical professionals to carry out treatments and tests in line with any rule or regulation in place. We must organize, interpret, and study the diagnostic tests of patients to recognize and evaluate their conditions. It is our duty to provide counselling and educate the patients and their family members on the details of their treatment plans. We supervise and direct other nurses, nurse aides, and assistants.Often, Registered Nurses are required to make decisions of sound judgment in the management of patient care.
