Job Description

Functional Pathways is currently searching for an experienced Payroll Administrator. The ideal candidate will have experience processing payroll and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, will know how to solve problems effectively and possess a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

This full-time opportunity comes with a full benefits package, and it will be based out of our corporate office in Knoxville, TN working a hybrid schedule (blend of working in the office and home) if living near Knoxville or 100% remote.

The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for handling the day-to-day payroll activities with direction/assistance/support coming from the Lead Payroll Administrator and the Director of Payroll and Benefits. This position involves access to confidential information and requires discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines on a consistent basis. The successful candidate must have prior payroll experience and be an intermediate to advanced user of MS Excel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ability to process full-cycle bi-weekly payroll for multi-company and multi-state entities with exempt and non-exempt employees.
2. Ability to research payroll issues independently with confidence and problem-solve issues to resolution.
3. Working knowledge of federal, multi-state, and multi-jurisdictional regulations as well as experience working with pre-tax and post-tax deductions to wage garnishments.
4. Provide excellent customer service with the ability to communicate directly in person, on the phone, or electronically to all (internal and external customers).
5. Knowledge and ability to maintain HRIS system records including working knowledge of earning/deduction codes, PTO Leave Plans, and other Benefit/Retirement/HSA contributions.
6. Ability to run reports from the Timekeeping/Payroll systems and prep them for distribution.
7. Ability to audit data and/or assist in payroll audits as needed (internal or external).
8. Ability to work closely with the Payroll/Benefits/HR and Accounting teams for day-to-day activities and special projects.
9. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 3 years experience working in a multi-company, high-volume payroll environment.
• Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws including payroll, taxes, withholding, deductions, and garnishments.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to review, analyze, and interpret information as well as troubleshoot to solve problems.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize several tasks without compromising the quality of work or mission deadlines.
• Knowledge of Business English and ability to communicate patiently and professionally with both internal and external customers, both orally and in writing
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Proficient with payroll software. Knowledge of UltiPro/UKG and other HRIS preferred.
• Experience working with multiple pay types (pay-per-visit, pay-per-unit, etc.), preferred.
