Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The FDH New Technology Division is growing and investing in a portfolio of products for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).   If you enjoy designing new products, would like to experience a start-up mentality, are hands-on with product design and have the desire to develop innovative IoT solutions for the infrastructure industry, read on to find out more about the next step in your career.

The primary function and purpose of the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be to lead the mechanical design effort on new products (including concept, drawing, modeling, prototyping, and printing) and provide support for existing product improvement.  This will be a key role on the Product Development Team and the candidate will bring the discipline and experience needed to help drive innovative mechanical solutions for the product pipeline.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support Product Engineering team in architecting, designing, developing, and sustaining mechanical hardware (including molded parts, connectors, cabling, and various other electromechanical components).
  • Support of BOM management, ECN creation/support, drawing management and product design specifications.
  • Assist in Design Level testing, simulation, and failure analysis – this may involve familiarity with environmental chambers, vibration tables, and 6-sigma toolsets for analysis of data.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Management and Suppliers to ensure customer requirements are continually satisfied.
  • Support and evaluate changes to existing products to improve quality and reduce cost.
  • Support industry certifications and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Educate and enhance capability of support staff in the areas of drawing, modelling, problem solving and documentation.
  • Demonstrate accountability and technical expertise to bring structured processes to support on-time delivery.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks drawing/modeling/simulation tools – ProE, Fusion360 or other equivalent packages may be considered.
  • Highly proficient with mechanical enclosure design for electronic circuit boards, displays, cameras, wireless modules, and other key components.
  • Broad knowledge of common mechanical part fabrication processes such as High-Pressure Injection Molding & Tooling, Low pressure Molding, RTV, Casting, 3D printing, Stamping/Forming,
  • Ability to demonstrate statistical tools in problem solving (6-sigma design methodology, GD&T, FMEA etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of development tools, product testing practices, fabrication processes and DFX (DFM, DFQ, DFC…) techniques.
  • Ability to use and/or interpret results from simulation software packages such as MoldFlow or SolidWorks Plastics
  • Ability to interpret a set of written requirements and realize the specifications required to deliver the finished product.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering projects on-time and meeting schedules under tight constraints.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented having the ability to manage large amounts of data and draw conclusions from correct interpretation of the data.
  • Must be very familiar with BOM management, ECN creation, components, assemblies, TLA creation and management – LCM software experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize project tasks with limited oversight to execute project tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4-8 years’ experience in mechanical design and product development
  • 6-sigma and other certifications considered a plus.

Engineers Mechanical Design Engineer

As Mechanical Design Engineers, we work with a multidisciplinary team in a company for a new product development cycle. We are responsible for designing and developing concepts from initial design to final prototypes.
