Role and Responsibilities

Summary

Provides syllabus instruction to Student Naval Aviators in T-45C aircraft. The In-flight Contract Instructor will work directly for the Site Manager and will be responsible for safe student pilot training in the associated aircraft supporting the CNATRA CIS Program. Can assist as a Subject Matter Expert in development of curriculum for new type courses as required. May provide additional services such as courseware review and other additional administrative and/or collateral duties such as publications, safety, quality audits, FCF, scheduling, and other duties as assigned by the Program or Site Manager. The Instructor will ensure a safe and secure work environment is maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct scheduled ICI led/supported training (including briefs and debriefs) using traditional and modern tools such as computers, video projectors, overhead projectors and other multimedia systems.
Evaluate student performance during training as required. Debrief students using full replay/debrief capabilities of the device utilized for the training event. Complete and submit electronic grade sheet(s) in the CNATRA T-Sharp system. If this is not possible due to a technical issue, the ICI shall immediately report the issue to the SM/ASM and fill out a paper grade sheet. The electronic record shall be completed as soon as possible. For prolonged outages, the SM and the Government representatives shall develop a corrective action plan.
Evaluate and record aircraft performance and/or deficiency in accordance with (IAW) established criteria. Document deficiencies on Maintenance Action Form (MAF).
Maintain, assess, and recommend improvements to training scenarios for effectiveness and currency.
Review curriculum; assess and recommend improvements to the training curriculum via the appropriate Training Officer or Stage Manager.
Other weapons system specific support responsibilities, as listed in contract appendices.
Ensures the content of instruction provided is appropriate to all current and implemented instructional materials and CNATRA Instructions/Notices.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Must have a bachelor's degree.
Be a former or reserve military aviator.
Possess a FAA Commercial Pilot certificate or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with the appropriate category and class ratings (instrument rating with single engine privileges).
Possess and maintain a current FAA class 2 medical.
Have logged a minimum of 1000 flight hours as Pilot-in-Command, of which 500 hours were in tactical jet aircraft, strike pipeline jet aircraft, or E-2/C-2 carrier aircraft.
Must successfully complete the T-45C NATOPS open book, closed book, and Immediate Action Item exams.
Must understand T-45C mission, procedures, and appropriate Flight Training Instructions.
Maintaining currency of qualifications that includes, but not limited to taking an annual standardization exam for each stage of instruction.
Contractor personnel shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

Preferred Skills

Previous T-45C Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) qualified pilot within the preceding five (5) years.

Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in aircraft, hangar, office, classroom, and simulator environments.
Work in a complex military training environment; communicate and maintain/submit required actions and reports by company, government and personal computer devices, plus current telephone and fax devices.
Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock and from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure.
Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into an airplane cockpit.

Tasks

Work as part of a flight team with other crew members, especially during takeoffs and landings.

Use instrumentation to guide flights when visibility is poor.

Start engines, operate controls, and pilot airplanes to transport passengers, mail, or freight, adhering to flight plans, regulations, and procedures.

Contact control towers for takeoff clearances, arrival instructions, and other information, using radio equipment.

Monitor gauges, warning devices, and control panels to verify aircraft performance and to regulate engine speed.

Respond to and report in-flight emergencies and malfunctions.

Steer aircraft along planned routes, using autopilot and flight management computers.

Check passenger and cargo distributions and fuel amounts to ensure that weight and balance specifications are met.

Monitor engine operation, fuel consumption, and functioning of aircraft systems during flights.

Inspect aircraft for defects and malfunctions, according to pre-flight checklists.

Choose routes, altitudes, and speeds that will provide the fastest, safest, and smoothest flights.

Confer with flight dispatchers and weather forecasters to keep abreast of flight conditions.

Direct activities of aircraft crews during flights.

Brief crews about flight details, such as destinations, duties, and responsibilities.

Order changes in fuel supplies, loads, routes, or schedules to ensure safety of flights.

Record in log books information, such as flight times, distances flown, and fuel consumption.

Make announcements regarding flights, using public address systems.

Perform minor maintenance work, or arrange for major maintenance.

Test and evaluate the performance of new aircraft.

Coordinate flight activities with ground crews and air traffic control and inform crew members of flight and test procedures.

File instrument flight plans with air traffic control to ensure that flights are coordinated with other air traffic.

Conduct in-flight tests and evaluations at specified altitudes and in all types of weather to determine the receptivity and other characteristics of equipment and systems.

Instruct other pilots and student pilots in aircraft operations and the principles of flight.

Plan and formulate flight activities and test schedules and prepare flight evaluation reports.

Load smaller aircraft, handling passenger luggage and supervising refueling.

Evaluate other pilots or pilot-license applicants for proficiency.
