GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Instructional Designer/ Blackboard Administrator assists in the development of best practice in online course design and assists faculty in the design of online and blended courses, both as it relates to the University s Blackboard learning management system (LMS) and the use of educational, technologies outside the LMS, while ensuring that online courses and the technology used meet applicable standards and regulations. Takes part in the evaluation of online courses and online instruction.
Solves problems related to Blackboard per requests by faculty and members of the online education team; escalating these problems as needed to the Blackboard technical support. Configures and supports the Blackboard environment; participating in the planning, testing, and implementation of Blackboard updates. Performs changes related to Blackboard configuration and enhancements and documents these changes. May be assigned additional tasks in support of the department's mission and goals, such as teaching online. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Primary responsibility for USAHS s Blackboard instance including but not limited to:
  • Serve in the role of Blackboard administrator; coordinating technical support and resources for Blackboard.
  • Serve as a liaison between end users, the information technology department, and Blackboard support.
  • Work with faculty and course writers on online course development and design.
  • Provide assistance to faculty related to course design and production of learning objects, such as Articulate Storyline or comparable products.
  • Attend conferences to maintain up-to-date knowledge of instructional design and technology.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Serve on University committees, as needed
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience as a Blackboard Administrator and instructional designer.
  • Familiarity with user roles, problems, implementation, maintenance of courses, and troubleshooting user problems in Blackboard.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office products such as Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of web design
  • Knowledge of computing, networking and communications systems and external educational applications
  • 3-5 years experience in higher education
  • 1-3 years in technical project management
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Knowledge of technical support best practices in an academic environment and experience liaising with Help Desk/end user support personnel
  • Experience with podcasting and streaming video technologies preferred
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Master s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or equivalent.
