Job Summary:

The Senior Classroom and Lab Technology Support Professional is a position in the Technology Support Services Division (TSS) of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus.

This position exists to manage workstations, servers, applications, and peripherals in support of teaching and learning activities. This position manages IT systems and devices in support of educational activities at the Denver campus. This position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and ongoing support of classroom and lab computers, servers, and applications supporting the student accessible open labs at the Denver campus. This position is also responsible for ensuring the successful integration of classroom computers with AV equipment and software at this campus.

Additionally, this position is responsible for managing a large team of Student Assistants that aid in monitoring and supervising three open access student computer labs at the Denver Campus.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Managing IT support processes for servers, computers, applications, and peripherals in teaching and learning spaces (classrooms and labs) at the Denver Campus.

  • Working with other teams in TSS to deploy and support AV software and equipment in teaching and learning spaces on campus.

  • Managing the daily operations of all computers and peripherals in classrooms on the Denver campus and developing increasingly streamlined maintenance procedures through automation of recurring tasks. This involves using tools and applications including Group Policy and SCCM to streamline routine tasks and efficiently implement changes on a large scale.

  • Managing users, computers, and security groups for the TSS OU in the UCDENVER domain in a backup capacity.

  • Managing, designing and deploying specific computer images to workstations to meet a range of academic and business needs.

  • Managing key systems and applications in support of classroom activities and lab services, including Deep Freeze and PaperCut.

  • Scheduling, directing and otherwise managing a team of 20 Student Assistants in support of lab operations and services.

Supervision Received

The Senior Classroom and Lab Technology Support Professional position reports directly to the Education Technology Support Manager and receives broad and general supervision that is in alignment with the goals and objectives of the division as well as the OIT strategic plan. The responsibilities and assigned work are multifaceted, unstructured, and both technical and supervisory in nature.

Supervision Exercised

This position will supervise a team of roughly 20 student employees. The exact number and hours of student workers will fluctuate based on the evolving operational needs of the Denver Student Labs. While this supervision includes scheduling, coaching, and directing these student workers, the position does not include the formal performance management components.

Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.

Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $58,793 to $70,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Education, or a related field.

  • Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.

  • Two years’ experience providing IT support in an enterprise environment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

  • Experience providing IT support in an academic or enterprise setting.

  • Experience leading teams, projects, and/or initiatives.

  • Experience using Active Directory and Group Policy to manage users, computers and groups.

  • Experience managing computer groups and administering large-scale changes with SCCM or other enterprise management tools.

  • Experience managing both physical and virtual servers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be self-motivated, self-managed, and able to adjust priorities in response to rapidly changing conditions based on customer and campus needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in IT Support, including the ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
