City Harvest is one of America's food rescue organizations. The organization was established in 1982 by Helen verDuin Palit, Harley Brooke-Hitching, and Peter Schmidt. The primary head office of the organization is based in New York City, New York, the United States. It is a not-for-profit organization, helping and volunteering to feed more than 1.5 million hungry New Yorkers who are struggling to find their own day meal. City Harvest organization is basically focused on hunger, food rescue, nutrition, and education of millions of New Yorkers. They collect discarded and excess food from New York City restaurants, groceries, green markets, farms, bakeries, supermarkets, cafes and distribute it to the needy without charge to community food programs throughout the New York City while boosting community capacity, expanding nutrition education, and strengthening local food system.
