Of my 25+ years of employment, the first 20 were spectacular. New projects were always available for development.
I felt exceptionally secure knowing that the owner/president of Lindgren/ETS had promised "I will never go public (the company)". With that information, I felt confident in staying with the company well over my normally expected time duration. After 5 to 8 years I usually move on to another company. You don't want to stay too long when the technology is as specialized as this companies product line was.
Developed product lines requiring the filing of 6 Patents (which were granted).
And then; just about the 20th year of my participation, the owner/president went public. Management was so busy cashing in on a robust economy, Engineering took a back seat to profits. It didn't take very long for the new parent company to notice what was happening, and closed the doors of the Glendale Heights facility. Most production was now being directly controlled by Esco Technologies.
Pros and Cons
Good salary, benefits. My home was 1/2 mile from the company.
Management couldn't do the work of their subordinates. Got rid of the talent for cheaper help.
