Based in New York City, New York, Autism Speaks specializes in promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan fulfilling the needs of individuals suffering from autism and their families and loved ones. The organization does this through support as well as advocacy increasing the acceptance and understanding of people with autism. Also, the organization is advancing research into the causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and other related conditions. The organization was founded in 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, who were grandparents of a child with autism. As result, recognizing the need for a popular voice Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to assist to help financially launch the organization.
