Savannah River National Laboratory (SNRL) is a public research center and a multi-program used by the United States Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management. SNRL was established in 1951 as Savannah River Laboratory, but in 2004 it was incorporated as a certified national laboratory. The center is headquartered in Savannah, Jackson, South Carolina, the United States. Vahid Majidi is the Executive Vice President/Director. SNRL was created for the process development and experimental research of the basic materials necessary in the fabrication of nuclear weapons, including tritium and plutonium, and explores and research for ecological remediation advances for the hydrogen economy, handling of perilous materials, and innovations for the counteraction of atomic multiplication.
