Established in 1974 by Dr. Barry Sherman, Apotex are a proud Canadian multinational pharmaceutical business that manufactures high-quality, affordable drugs for patients around the world (both generic and creative pharmaceuticals). They have evolved to employ more than 8,000 people worldwide in manufacturing, R&D and commercial operations from their modest beginnings of only two employees. They sell to over 100 countries and territories, and their global reach includes a network of distributors and strategic alliances, with a presence in the US, Mexico, and India. They are capable of manufacturing 24 billion tablets and capsules per year globally, which in turn, are used to fill more than 90 million prescriptions in Canada alone, or one in five. Their initiatives include but are not limited to): staggering staff changes to minimize the size of working groups, altering their cafeteria room to increase social distance, introducing additional cleaning and sanitization routines, rigorous self-assessment and screening tools, limits on travel, a work-from-home policy, and a stringent visitor screening procedure.
