Working in a prison is already challenging enough, and on top of that the management will put their employees in risky situations with the inmates to save themselves on justifying or explaining messed up decisions that they made. The inmates are treated poorly, and they are on lock for days, which creates an unhealthy atmosphere when they come off of lockdown. I will never recommend anyone I know to work at this location.

Pros and Cons
The ability to give the inmates some type of hope.
Everything: management, piss poor communication

I switched over to VADOC/VCE from another state agency, a level or so higher than my previous position. The job was very fulfilling and there already happened to be a lot of talent and additional potential when I arrived. I was lucky to work with a group that fell right into the teamwork concept and really enjoyed that team. My position was eliminated, as were about 20 others. I would go back in a heartbeat to my former position!

Pros and Cons
Benefits and time off, impact on the community and people that are trying to correct mistakes
Government cant always move and react as quick as private industry.

This provides excellent insurance and benefits to employees; however the atmosphere can lend itself to depression, anger, anc and chaotic family life.
